Snow Emergency Routes

Snow Emergencies are sometimes declared for the Borough throughout the winter. Read below for more information and click the link to see if you live on or around a snow emergency route.

WHAT ARE SNOW EMERGENCIES?
Under this declaration No Parking is permitted on the sides of streets designated as “Snow Emergency Routes”.  The purpose of this declaration is to get parked cars removed from the sides of streets designated as Snow Emergency Routes, in order to enable snow plowing by the Borough; and to permit the safe passage of emergency vehicles as well as easier traveling by the general public.  Vehicles which remain parked in violation of the Snow Emergency Route postings or which block snow removal efforts will be cited for an ordinance violation and may be towed by the Regional Police Department at the vehicle owner’s expense.

HOW WILL WE BE NOTIFIED IF A SNOW EMERGENCY IS DECLARED?
The Borough will announce if a snow emergency is declared to alert residents by sending CODE RED and SAVVY CITIZEN alerts to subscribers, posting the information on our website, and by sending a press release to numerous media outlets. Call our office 570-421-8300 if you would like to be added to the list of subscribers for CODE RED alerts, or sign up via our website links.

WHAT IF I DON’T MOVE OFF A SNOW EMERGENCY ROUTE?
If you leave your car parked along a snow emergency route during a declared snow emergency, you will be ticketed with a $300.00 violation, and/or towed at the owner’s expense.

WHERE SHOULD I PARK DURING A SNOW EMERGENCY?
You cannot park on the side of street that is marked as a snow emergency. If your street has alternate side of the street parking, please move your car to the “Non Snow Emergency Route” during the snow emergency. Once the snow emergency is lifted, please be sure to move your car to the correct side of the street based on the alternate side parking signs. If you are only allowed to park along one side of the street, and it happens to be marked as a snow emergency route, please move your car to off-street parking, or another street nearby that is not marked as a snow emergency route. If you do not live along a snow emergency route, please make sure you are following the parking restriction signs accordingly and park on the correct side of the street. Some streets do not allow weekend or night parking – be sure you are following all of these rules to make it possible for snow plows and emergency vehicles to get through.
